After years of stagnation, a newly energized Taiwan tech and startup economy is continuing on an upward path, with numerous new financings, funds and M&A deals for emerging companies far afield from its old-time focus on semiconductors.

The latest example of the maturing of Taiwan's startup scene is the mid-August acquisition by Taipei-based mobile Internet service GMobi of its long-term partner, mobile performance ad network MassiveImpact in Israel. The deal with MassiveImpact, backed by Softbank and SingTel Innov8, seeks to expand their services for app developers in the U.S. and China.

Slush Asia took place on May 13th and 14th at the Makuhari Messe exhibition halls in Chiba. Among 60 nominees fiercely competing during the 2-day event, Taiwan-based SkyREC — which is developing an analytics platform for real stores — won this year’s startup pitch competition. Taiwanese startups won for two consecutive years following Slush Asia 2015 last year.

台灣新創團隊SkyREC的實體商店商情分析系統奪下Slush Asia 2016簡報冠軍，獲得包括Autodesk提供現金100萬日圓（約新台幣30萬元）、日本航空提供55000免費哩程點數及Google提供價值100萬日圓的服務；這是繼去年Slush Asia第1屆由台灣團隊VMFive奪冠，今年冠軍再度由台灣新創團隊蟬聯。

舊金山金流服務新創公司Stripe在2月推出Atlas測試版計畫，幫助網路新創公司解決擴張美國市場時的痛點，Atlas測試版屬於推薦邀請制，跟全球50個創業加速器和投資基金合作。台灣新創競技場TSS今年最大的目標就是新創團隊的海外接地服務，6日宣布與Stripe合作，台灣新創團隊可透過TSS推薦申請Atlas計畫。
