Ellen Wu, who is the Head of Asia Data Office and Global Head of Data Enablement and Governance at Manulife, has a wealth of experience in building modern data capabilities and establishing practical data governance. In one year of joining Manulife, she has been able to build a data team supporting Asia, transformed Manulife’s data governance agenda globally and grown the business use cases leveraging big data capabilities 4 times of the original plan. Prior to joining Manulife, she served as the Asia Pacific Chief Data Officer at HSBC Commercial Banking where she created and managed a Data Office and led several global data transformation initiatives across 50 countries. Prior to HSBC, she implemented the first global data management tool for Standard & Poor’s Capital IQ. Ellen was also a key committee member at the DAMA International China Chapter and invited to speak at the first data conference hosted by China Banking Regulatory Committee on the topic of Data Management & Governance. Ellen has degrees in Mathematics & Economics from Smith College, a Data Science degree from the MIT Digital Program, and a certification in International Relations and Quantitative Methods in Economics & Business from Harvard. Ellen has worked internationally from Shanghai, New York to London throughout her career. She is currently based in Hong Kong.
